國立臺灣藝術大學戲劇系畢業。2006創辦狂想劇場至今。2011導演作品《賊變》入圍第十屆台新藝術獎「十大表演藝術」；創作內容深廣，觸及精神分析、當代社會、歷史題材、文學改編、跨域實驗等方向，共有十五個導演作品；導演手法形式多元，遊走寫實與意象，曾與攝影、舞蹈、影像多媒體、傳統戲曲等藝術家跨域創作。


近年嘗試紀錄劇場，《非常上訴》邀請政治犯與觀眾在劇場裡，以法庭形式，討論台灣長達38年戒嚴的合法性，並邀請觀眾投票表達1949至1987是否為不法國家時期；《單向封鎖》因應新冠肺炎疫情，邀請各領域專家上台思辯疫情下的人類現況。

     Liao Jun-kai graduated from the Department of Drama, NTUA. He founded Fantasy Theatre in 2006. In 2011, he directed Cheat to Cheat, which was nominated for the 10th Taishin Arts Award Performing Art Yearly Top 10. His works are noted for both their depth and width, touching upon topics in the areas of psychoanalysis, contemporary society, historical events, literary adaptation and transdisciplinary experiments. He has directed a total of 13 works. His directing style is characterized by a diverse use of forms and one that tiptoes the line between reality and fantasy. He has collaborated with artists from various fields, including photography, dance, multimedia and traditional opera.
    Liao has also directed theater works to explore contemporary issues such as elderly living alone, housing justice, indiscriminate killing and the White Terror. These were attempts to initiate a dialogue with the society through theater and provide a humanistic perspective on current issues in an unpretentious way. Liao invites his audience into the theater to dream while awake, to think, to reflect on life and to act.
